Plastic SCM becomes 9.0!

UPDATE March 17, 2020: You can now read a summary about what were the main features launched during Plastic 8.0.

As every year, we jump to a new number, 9.0 this time. For all of you using subscriptions, it will be transparent.

If your team uses an "unlimited license", remember to request a new license where "major version supported" is updated to 9.

We no longer release major huge new versions anymore. We don't wait to package tons of new features. We simply keep releasing at least once a week and making new features available version after version. That's how we ended up in version 9.0.16.4057, the one we converted to 9.

If you subscribe to Plastic, or you purchase support plus updates, it means you will receive a constant flow of updates.

This initial 9.0 won't be a lot different to the latest 8.0. But in a few months, 9.0 will be very different, week after week.

These are some of the things we are cooking:

• .NET Core base server – We already previewed it, but it will turn official in the months to come. It means faster operation and a more stable core, specially on Linux and macOS.
• We'll keep improving the Code Review system.
• We are working on a new Plastic Cloud that will run circles around the current one.
• We'll update the current GUI look and feel.

And many, many more to come.

What did Plastic 8 introduce?

As we said before, the initial Plastic 9.0 won't be greatly different from the latest Plastic 8.0.

These are a subset of the main features released since January 2019, when we launched Plastic 8.0:

• Incoming Changes — Single branch workflow improvements.
• New Code Review — A completely new workflow described in a series of blog posts. And also, Code Review for macOS.
• Plastic SCM Server runs .Net core — The new servers are now much stronger than they used to be.
• Merge code moved across files — This is multi-file semantic merge.
• Merge Rules system — Restrict merges to happen only if certain rules are met.
• Plastic Proxy improvements — Helps to monitoring space and cleaning cache up on disk.
• multi-instance Plastic server — Or how to provide our customers with a fault-tolerant, zero-downtime server for their on-premise setups.
• IDEs JetBrains support — Plastic SCM is fully compatible with all JetBrains' IDEs.
• Command-line redesign and upgrades — Human readable command input and output, enhanced discoverability and help, command expression consistency, and several commands updates.
