Who we are

We are the developers of Plastic SCM, a full version control stack (not a Git variant). We work on the strongest branching and merging you can find, and a core that doesn't cringe with huge binaries and repos. We also develop the GUIs, mergetools and everything needed to give you the full version control stack.

If you want to give it a try, download it from here.

We also code SemanticMerge, and the gmaster Git client.

It's official! Códice Software, the company behind Plastic SCM, has been acquired by Unity Technologies!

This is very good news for all our users. We'll now have more power to expand and grow to make Plastic the best version control system available, which is what we always wanted to achieve.

Plastic will continue serving all users beyond game development and we will continue to build and evolve the product to a wide variety of industries. It's time to celebrate! It's been a great ride since we started back in 2005, and as cliché as it might sound, it was you, our users, who made it possible.

What is going to stay? And what changes?

Códice will remain in our main office in Boecillo – Valladolid – Spain, in the middle of a beautiful forest, and the plan is to grow the team locally with the goal of making Boecillo/Valladolid a hub for all things version control.

We'll continue to focus on Plastic and version control technology in general, which includes our SemanticMerge and gmaster tools as well. We remain committed to our goal of making version control better for use in any industry and to building out great features that empower users with flexibility and control over the most complex projects. Though we will be focusing on making the Plastic experience seamless with the Unity engine, Plastic will continue to work great with all game engines.

Unity and Códice

Unity is the world's leading platform for creating and operating real-time 3D (RT3D) content. From the start, we knew that we share the same core values with Unity - we care about our users and go bold where we can.

Besides being great for our users, being now part of Unity is also great news for the entire team. We'll continue doing what we love and what we know how to do best, but being part of a much bigger and solid company.

Our dream when we started the company was to create the best version control system. We wanted to develop something that was great with branches, merges, was super-fast, and that understood the code with semantic capabilities. In the end we wanted to help teams collaborate the best they could. It was a big dream for an initial team of four but we were naïve enough to think it was possible. And today, we are closer to that reality. By joining Unity, we will be part of a solid company of creators who share our same goals: making the best tools for teams of any size to build any experience they can imagine.

I'd like to say big thanks to our investors, Bullnet Capital, who made this whole project possible and our business angel, Mr. Villacorta, who trusted us when we only had a bunch of ideas on paper. Thanks for your trust and support over the years.

We hope you join us in celebrating this momentous occasion and are excited to take you on our journey as we aim to push the limits of version control.

Time to celebrate!
